Area Information

Ephrata Washington, county seat of Grant County, is a rural community located in Eastern Washington near Seattle and Spokane. Looking for sun and fun, the Grant County area has many activities to excite people of all ages. The Cascade Mountains are withinan hour's drive, as are Moses Lake and Soap Lake.

Ephrata is the county seat of Grant County and is the headquarters for many state and federal agencies. The City of Ephrata has recently undergone a beautification project for a downtown park and plaza.

We have excellent schools. Our test scores are consistently the highest in the state. Our sports and youth programs rival the finest in the United States. The Ephrata School District serves a diverse population from varied backgrounds with full range of educational needs. Our students are very involved in school and community sponsored events such as academics, athletics and fine arts.

Our transportation facilities are unparalleled. Three state highways converge on our city. We have one of the largest airports in Washington State and we're known as the "Glider Capital of the Northwest." An average of 23 trains per day comes through Ephrata.

The new multimodal transportation center handles Amtrak and Greyhound services. The Port owns a rail spur line that connects directly with the Burlington Northern Line. That connects you to the rest of the United States and Canada. The Grant County International Airport's main runway of 13,500 feet is considered the second longest runway west of the Mississippi, and the fourth busiest airport in the state.

If your business involves manufacturing or distribution, you should look very closely at the Port of Ephrata. Because our port district has special powers to help businesses like yours with financing, grants revenue bonds and some very special tax incentives. With their broad powers, Port Commissioners can help with leases, subleases, leasebacks, sales, and low rental rates. Businesses now based at the Port of Ephrata have shown remarkable growth.

We have one of the lowest electrical rates in the United States. There is abundant water, a good sewer system, and incredibly wonderful weather. Add to that a strong infrastructure, great schools and local government that works to help business.

Ephrata and Grant County are tourist Meccas. We want new and existing businesses to come and take advantage of our natural tourist business. Every year, nearly two million tourists visit Ephrata! Our motels are filled almost every night during tourist season. Our restaurants are kept busy with tourists and locals.

We are located in one of the finest agricultural areas in the world. Ephrata sits in the heart of the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project, a one million-acre agricultural project of which over 500,000 acres are already developed. From apples to potatoes, from wheat to hay, crops of all kinds grow and thrive here.

It's time for fun in the sun or snow - however you may choose. The Grant County area has many activities to excite people of all ages. Grant County has 23 city parks, 2 state parks, 1 national park, 2 national wildlife refuges, 9 maintained trails, 139 lakes, 13 beaches and the majestic Columbia River. Ephrata is on a natural tourist route to wondrous places such as Grand Coulee Dam, Steamboat Rock State Park, Banks Lake, and a host of other lakes, offering bountiful fishing, boating and water skiing. Other natural wonders include cascading waterfalls, prehistoric caves, sand dunes and scenic canyons.
